Armed police and dog handlers surround man outside Thanet council offices

Police, including armed officers and dog handlers, were called to Cecil Street in Margate this afternoon (July 16).

The officers, armed with weapons including assault rifles, surrounded a man outside Thanet council’s offices before leading him away.

It is understood a call was made of concern of a ‘potential incident.’

A Thanet council spokesperson said: “”Police attended the Thanet District Council offices at Cecil Street, Margate, on Tuesday 16 July, in response to a potential incident.

“The matter was quickly resolved. The council offices were closed for a short period, as a safety precaution and reopened just after 3pm.”

A Kent Police spokesperson added: “Kent Police was called to Cecil Square, Margate at 2.25pm following reports of a man making threats.

“Officers attended and the man was located and arrested in relation to the incident. He has been taken into custody and enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.”
