Some 1200 people turned out to watch a fundraising ‘Sellebrity Soccer’ match at the Ramsgate FC stadium yesterday (June 9).
Celebrities Danny Walters, Dan Osbourne, Dean Gaffney, Jake Wood, Calum Best, Ricky Groves, the Singing Dentist and other VIPs took to the WW Martin stadium to go head to head in aid of Rams FC’s Ramsgate Active Education Foundation.
The final score was 9-6 with the winning team captained by Dan Osbourne.
Darren Eadie and Kevin Cooper launched Sellebrity Soccer in 2012 to raise charity funds. To date these games have raised more than £1.5 million for great causes.
Rams FC’s Ramsgate Active Education Foundation recently published its impact report which shows that since it was founded in 2021 it has provided HAF programmes for some 500 local children, provided 400 free laptops to families, 150 helicopter rides and has taught children how to swim and ride bikes.
Rob Hughes, who has helped organise the event, said: “It’s been fantastic to work alongside Kevin and his team to bring this event to Ramsgate Football Club. One of the biggest things for us was to make the event affordable and to keep children’s prices low.”
Ricky Groves, who played Gary Hobbs in EastEnders, added: “It’s all for a very good cause – the Ramsgate Active Education Foundation.”
The celebs stayed at the San Clu hotel in Ramsgate on the night prior to the match. Hotel manager Karen Nash said: “We worked with Sellebrity Soccer, hosting some of the celebs. “They were lovely guys and happy to have their photos taken with my team leader Jodie Piper, they all loved their stay.
“We had Arthur Poremba and Chelsea and world cup football player Frank Sinclair and his lovely wife Nikki and Eastenders stars Danny Walters (Keanu) and Ricky Groves.”
