Margate man remanded over serious crash in Shottendane Road leaving three women injured

The road was closed while emergency services attended the scene

Detectives investigating a serious collision by Garlinge which left three women needing hospital treatment have charged a man.

Just after 9.30am on Friday 24 May, a black Vauxhall Astra was involved in a collision with a white Toyota Aygo at the junction of Garlinge High Street and Shottendane Road.

Shortly before the collision, the black Astra had reportedly failed to stop when requested by police officers who were then  authorised to pursue it.

Emergency services attended the scene of the collision and two women who were in the Toyota were taken to a London hospital where they remain in a serious but stable condition.

A third woman, who was a passenger in the same car, was taken to a local hospital where she remains for treatment.

A 23-year-old man suspected to have been in the Astra was arrested at the scene and was also taken to a local hospital for medical attention.

Officers have now charged Joshua Clelford, of Argyle Avenue, Margate with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, using a motor vehicle without insurance and driving while otherwise in accordance with a licence.

He appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on 27 May 2024 where he was remanded to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on 24 June.
