BMX champ visits Holy Trinity & St John’s Primary School

BMX Halfpipe champion Mike Mullen displays his skills

Holy Trinity & St John’s Primary School in Margate have been visited by six-times BMX Halfpipe champion Mike Mullen from BMX Academy.

Mike spoke with the children about the importance of resilience and perseverance in their learning.

He wowed everyone with his skills during a whole school assembly where he taught Mr Vitulli a trick and then jumped over four brave teachers, including headteacher Mr Garratt.

During the day, Year 6 children took part in workshops with Mike designed to empower them to take a growth mindset approach to learning new skills and encouraging them to stretch out of their comfort zones.

PE teacher Mr Williams said: “All of Year 6 loved having the opportunity to develop new skills and it was great to see their confidence grow throughout each session. We look forward to seeing Mike again next year.”

Pupil Darcy said: “I really liked the tricks on the ramp and Mike was nice and supportive,” while classmate Maya-Rae said: “I  loved doing new tricks that I thought I couldn’t do,” and Dominik added: “Mike taught me how to stand on a bike and ride with no hands.”

  1. Absolutely brilliant. Love the blend of a high-octane display and having fun on bikes to teach them about mental strength. Excellent way of getting little ones attention – they’ll remember this all their days.
