Volunteer audience members needed for filming at The Palace Cinema in Broadstairs

The Palace Cinema in Broadstairs will feature in a community film about the venue’s history.

The Palace and the Empire in Sandwich are the focus of the project by Terry Wilson and Richard Hetherington.

They are looking at the history of both cinemas and the role they play in the community.

As part of the filming at the Palace there is a call for people to be volunteer audience members on May 19th.

Richard said: “Over the last few years we have been working together, with the help of local individuals and businesses, to create three short videos on topics of local interest.

“They are The Destruction of St Mary’s Church Reculver, The Dambusters at Reculver and Migrating Coastal Birdlife, Minnis Bay to Reculver. The videos were shown as part of a Birchington Heritage Trust event at The Centre Birchington. They are also online.

“We’re hoping to do the same with our cinema project. The projects have only been possible by the generous support of volunteer effort.

“We need a volunteer audience for our cinema community video project. The audience will be a backdrop for moments from the Palace’s past.  Anyone over 18 who has a love of cinema and is keen to show their support for one of the remaining locally run independent cinemas, can email their details to  [email protected] and register their interest. Places are limited.

“The filming is on Sunday 19th May and will start at 11am, taking one to two hours.

“Attending is entirely voluntary, but everyone in the audience will need to sign a release form to enable the finished video to be shown.”
