A Dane Valley hair and beauty salon has been shortlisted in four categories of the Official UK Hair and Beauty Awards.
Hudson Floyd Hair & Beauty, based in Olave Road, has made the cut in the Best salon decor, Best nail salon, Best colour salon and Best blonde salon categories and is hoping to be named in the Top 50 of each at a red carpet event in Birmingham on June 1.
Owner Oliver Hudson-Floyd is also preparing to celebrate the salon’s fifth anniversary on April 8.
The 32-year-old, who lives in Dane Valley with husband Mark, said: “I opened the doors five years ago, with just me and my niece Lucy as a Saturday girl.
“I then refurbished the salon to make more space and bring something new to the area. We are now a team of four with myself and expert stylist Zoe, beauty therapist Alexandra Hewitt and apprentice Phoebe.”
Oliver qualified in hairdressing through an apprenticeship with Keith Graham Academy when he was 18. He worked in salons until he was 21 when he ventured out on his own as a mobile hairdresser for the next nine years until opening Hudson Floyd Hair & Beauty in Dane Valley.
The former Charles Dickens student said he and Alexandra -shortlisted for best nail salon- and the team are “excited” to make the finals.
He said: “Doing the entries is quite a process. You have to put all your details in and the story of how you started, what obstacles there were, your best work, and then the professional (panel) puts you through if you meet the criteria.
“The final is on June 1st and hopefully we will get in to the Top 50.
“It is the first year where there aren’t any regional (heats) so it is the whole UK now and definitely tougher than ever before.
“It is a huge achievement and we can’t thank our clients enough for all their support.”
Oliver and his team are also looking forward to marking the salon’s fifth anniversary on Monday (April 8) and there will be a whole team holiday to Turkey at some point to celebrate.
Oliver added: “We will then be looking for another team member to join us, will continue to pamper our clients and hopefully getting to the Hair and Beauty Awards finals will be good exposure for us and we will welcome new clients to our fun, friendly and fabulous salon.”
