Margate theatre-makers bring show Sad to the stage in Canterbury

Sad coming to The Marlow Studio stage

Margate theatre-makers Brigitte Aphrodite and Gaz Tomlinson – aka Quiet Boy- bring their show about the grieving process to The Studio at The Marlowe theatre in Canterbury next month.

The performance for Sad uses visuals, original and live electronic music, installations, projection mapping and atmospheric storytelling to take the audience on an immersive journey.

Based on Quiet Boy’s personal experience following the loss of his Mum and inspired by musical artist Nick Cave’s articulation around grief, Sad also features powerful voice recordings of real people’s stories – all from Thanet – including  Dame Jame and Jade Spranklen of Studio Spranks.

Brigitte is a Margate-based neurodiverse artist and this plays a pivotal part in her inclusive approach with Quiet Boy – an alternative theatre composer, songwriter, sound designer and performer.

They are co-creators of acclaimed theatre shows My Beautiful Black Dog and The Christmas Goblin and are regarded as one of the original innovators of the ‘Gig Theatre’ genre in the UK.

The duo work with The Wellcome Trust and other charities, to develop workshops to be delivered in schools, theatres and community groups around the UK.

Sad is directed by award-winning Kent artist Kirsty Housley.

SAD is on at The Studio and The Marlowe on Wednesday 3rd April, Thursday 4th April and Friday 5th April at 8pm.
