‘She Shines’ exhibition in Margate sharing work from 22 women artists

Artist and organiser Marijana Peraica at the She Shines opening

An exhibition featuring the work of 22 women is on show at the Pharmacy Gallery in Margate Old Town.

The display was organised by artist Marijana Peraica who moved to Margate from Croatia eight years ago.

Nursery worker Marijana says the isle’s beaches, clouds and ‘pink skies’ have helped her find her “artistic spirit” and prompted her to organise the She Shines exhibition to celebrate “female creativity and resilience.”

She Shines opened on International Women’s Day (March 8) and runs until March 24 as part of the Power of Women festival.

Marijana said: “The exhibition features the work of 22 incredible female artists, each bringing their unique perspective and voice to the forefront. No matter our backgrounds, styles, or experiences, we’ve gathered to remind each other that we all have the power to shine bright, to support, uplift, and to cheer on every woman participating in the exhibition, and beyond.

“She Shines is more than just an art show; it’s a celebration of female creativity and resilience.

“The goal is to provide a space for female artists to showcase their artwork. Far too often, upcoming female artists do not get the opportunities they deserve to share their work and receive recognition.

“She Shines is about giving them the chance to connect, share ideas, inspire each other, and create a community.”

Marijana, whose husband Mijo is a clinical site manager at William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, says She Shines is her first exhibition.

She said: “There are three submissions from each artist. I also have three pieces and some 20 by 20 canvases in the window.

“We all do art to say something and I think it is amazing, I have met these wonderful girls and it’s a really nice community

“I’m deeply grateful to David Mullet from Pharmacy Gallery for providing us with his space to organise this exhibition.

“Looking ahead, I am already dreaming of next year’s event, where I hope to organise an even bigger exhibition with more female artists. I’d like to include different types of art. like sculpture.”

She Shines can be seen at Pharmacy Gallery, 14 Lombard Street, Margate. The venue is currently open every day 11am to 4pm, closing time is slightly later on Saturday and Sunday.
