Story characters brought to life for World Book Day at Chilton Primary School

World Book Day fun at Chilton

Bedtime stories was the theme for World Book Day at Chilton Primary in Ramsgate.

A host of creative costumes were on show as children swapped their uniforms and dressed as their favourite book characters or wore their colourful pyjamas.

Among the colourful creations on show were familiar faces from much-loved books including Harry Potter, Willy Wonka and the Oompa Loompas, witches, dragons, fairies and princesses.

A busy day began with a special World Book Day assembly where teachers shared their favourite stories with pupils.

The focus was on children immersing themselves in reading for pleasure through a range of activities. They shared their own bedtime stories with each other, and teachers moved from class to class telling their favourite tales.

As a treat all teachers had recorded a ‘masked reader’ video that children watched to see if they could puzzle how just how the voice was behind the story.

Head of School Alex McAuley said: “It was so impressive how the whole school really embraced the spirit of World Book Day.

“Reading is a passion at Chilton and it was fascinating to see children swapping their favourite stories and discussing what they liked about them.

“The costumes on show were fantastic and it was clear that a lot of effort had gone in to bringing storybook characters to life – and our staff team once again were brilliant in providing a range of inspiring activities that were fun and educational, underlining the reading for pleasure principle.”
