Salmestone Primary School celebrates ‘fantastic’ reading, writing and maths results

Salmestone is celebrating great results for its reading, writing and maths

Salmestone Primary School has celebrated the release of results for Year 6 children as it secured its place as the highest achieving primary school in Margate.

The results for children in their SAT tests just before they move up to secondary school placed Salmestone 7% above the national average for children reaching the expected level in reading, writing and maths, the highest score of all Margate schools.

Children at Salmestone also made the most progress in reading, writing and maths out of all 8 schools in the town.

In summer 2023, 67% of Salmestone Year 6 children achieved the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, compared to a national average of 60%. The average for Kent primary schools was 59%.

Headteacher Thomas Platten said: “We were delighted for our pupils who worked so hard to achieve these fantastic results. These outcomes reflect all the effort that staff, the school community and the pupils themselves put in over their time at our fantastic school.”

Salmestone Primary School is one of five Thanet schools in The Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT).
