The Grumpy Goblin gets set to open second Ramsgate store

The Grumpy Goblin gaming shop in Ramsgate is expanding its town presence with the opening of an additional store in Queen Street.

The business, which first opened in Ramsgate in February 2016, specialises in hobbyist games including Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon and a variety of other family friendly fun aimed at all ages.

It is based at 90 Queen Street and on Saturday will also open at 82 Queen Street.

Owner Lewis Todd, 35, started at the store as manager in 2016 and in 2018 he bought the business.

He said: “We will be keeping both stores just doors apart. The expansion is down to the growth in our community and space required to fulfil their needs.

“With the new space we will be substantially growing our retail space and, more importantly, our play spaces with seating for over 150 between to two venues.”

Lewis, who lives in Ramsgate, says being a player gives him a good insight into what others want from the business.

He said: “I grew up playing games with my friends in the local stores in my youth until coming onboard The Grumpy Goblin as a manager and eventually buying the shop myself in 2018.

“Since then I have revitalised the gaming community in Thanet and expanded outward to a Dover store and warehouse in Whitfield.

“Being a player gives me an eye for what players want and that’s what we strive to provide with all we do.

“We wouldn’t be able to do any of this without our community of customer and players.”

The new Grumpy Goblin premises will open on Saturday [December 9] at 10am. The opening will include activities and events, a raffle and goodie bags.
