Horsham 1 Margate 0

A goal in the 87th minute saw a hard-working Margate side lose at Horsham on Tuesday night.

There was little to pick between these teams throughout this Isthmian League contest but the decisive moment came when a forward pass was made into Margate’s half.

It found sub Lucas Rodrigues in the right channel who shot low past advancing Margate keeper Harry Seaden to hit the far post. Daniel Ajakaiye was on hand to put the rebound into the net.

This was tough on a Margate side who had contained their opponents while not posing much of an attacking threat of their own.

The first chance of the match came on 20 minutes for Horsham when Jack Brivio’s cross from the left was met by Charlie Hester-Cook’s head but Seaden saved.

Lee Harding then flicked another header goalwards but Seaden again was equal to the effort. Margate’s keeper then touched over a shot by Harvey Sparks.

Just before the interval Horsham hit the crossbar with a header by Shamir Fenelon.

Margate’s best opportunity to score came on 70 minutes, a loose ball in the box fell to Fyn Rutherford but his shot was cleared from the goalmouth.

Despite all their diligent work, Ajakaiye’s decisive touch denied Margate a point.
