Notice: Passing of Alistair Dixon

Alistair Dixon

Alistair Dixon, husband to Robert Stone,  passed away at 5.40pm on Monday 6th November 2023 at Pilgrims Hospice Canterbury from liver disease.

Robert said: “He was a man of many talents and achievements, not only in the hotel business, where he will be fondly remembered by guests and fellow members of the Broadstairs Tourism and Leisure Association on which he served as chair.

“Though prior to moving to Broadstairs he had a long career as a telecoms management consultant, he was best known as a gifted musician, a singer, organist and conductor. He co-founded the celebrated independent record label Signum Records for which he recorded the complete works of Thomas Tallis in a monumental nine-disc series with the professional choir Chapelle du Roi, which he founded and conducted.

“He also sang for many years as a Gentleman of Her Majesty’s Chapel Royal at St James Palace. He was a guiding light in amateur music making, as the inspirational Chair of the London Renaissance Singers for over ten years and as the leader of numerous choral workshops.

“In music publishing he set a high bar with his editions of choral music for the Cantiones Press.

Alistair was a warm and loving man whose death leaves a huge gap in the lives of those who knew him and loved him -myself, his surviving family and a wide circle of friends.”

Funeral will be at midday at Holy Trinity Broadstairs on Friday 8th December followed by Thanet Crematorium then a Wake at The Bay Tree Hotel

Robert will take a break immediately after in Barmouth (the couple love the area and nearly bought two different hotels before choosing The Bay Tree in Broadstairs)

Details of charity donations instead of flowers in due course

If musical friends can message Robert to discuss suitable arrangements (Alistair wanted Duarte Lobo for 6 voices)

Robert and families thank everyone for their support at this very sad time
