Proud Pink Inns has taken over management of Sundowners in Margate with immediate effect.

Doors of the Albert Terrace LGBTQIA+ club closed temporarily last week following a decision by club boss Duncan Bayles due to his appearance in court on charges of sexual offences against children.

Mr Bayles denies charges of 11 indecent assault on a male person charges; five indecency with a child charges and one charge of attempted rape dating between 1987 and 1996.

He made a statement that new management would be taking over the venue.

Proud Pink Inns will reopen Sundowners on Friday, October 27.

In a statement on the venue’s new facebook page they say: “Proud Pink Inns is proudly gay owned and managed, and we look forward to welcoming you.

“Our team is headed by our director and general manager Iain Maxstead, who has over 25 years’ experience within the LGBTQIA+ community and licencing trade and brings a wealth of knowledge to the venue.

“Iain and his husband David have enjoyed 36 years together and stand united in providing the best environment for our customer experience.

“We pride ourselves in providing the community and their allies with a safe and welcoming space.

“We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to join us when we open on Friday 27th October for welcoming drinks. Our first event will be the Halloween fancy dress party on Saturday 28th October, with prizes and treats.”
