The Age UK charity shop in Margate will close for good at the end of this month.

The shop in the High Street has traded for 10 years but the lease is now ending and will not be renewed.

The charity shop, headed by a team led by Shirley Tomlinson, will open for its final day on Saturday, September 30.

In a notice, Age UK Thanet CEO Vanessa Wood said: “The team have worked tirelessly for the past 10 years in Margate High Street in support of Age UK Thanet.

“Thank you so much to past and present volunteers who have helped the shop continue and thank you to everyone who has also found a smile and a laugh when buying an item. It has shown that the shop has real community spirit and will be missed greatly.

“A special thank you to Shirley, who worked so hard to make the shop a success. As a volunteer manager she has supported the volunteers and her colleague Christine and ensured the smooth running of the shop and has always offered a helping hand to those in need.”

Vanessa asked that no more donations are taken to the shop and reiterated “an enormous thank you to everyone who has supported the Age UK Thanet shop over the last 10 years.”

The opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 9.30am-3.30pm.
