She said: “It was a fairly big fire and spooked my dog to the point of him slipping out of his collar.

“I thought it was best to report it and I don’t get signal on the beach so was rushing to climb the steps to the Esplanade to make a call.

“I think it was a bin as I heard glass cracking/breaking.”

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Eastern Esplanade in Broadstairs, to reports of a bin alight. One fire engine attended, and the crew put the fire out with a bucket of water.”

The crew finished at the scene at 11.37pm.

  1. Thank goodness there wasn’t a hole in that bucket!
Seriously, having a lawless and corrupt government, a world on fire, no miscreant behaviour surprises me anymore!

  2. Good to report it, I expect the Beach Huts would have been next for some twisted pyromaniac to get their enjoyment. Looking at the photos I would’ve thought it took more than a “bucket full of water” to put the flames out and left by the time, the fire engine got there the flames and burn their selves out.
