A Broadstairs man is to appear in court charged with shoplifting offences and assault in Thanet.

Following an investigation by response officer PC Aidan Grunsell, four counts of shoplifting and one count of assault were authorised against 29-year-old Alex Horey, of Botany Road.

The charges follow a report that a masked shoplifter had been challenged and then assaulted a man in Tesco Express in Broadstairs on Friday 10 March. Around £90 worth of items were reported stolen from the store.

The charges also relate to three other reports of shoplifting on the same date, around £95 worth of items from the Co-op in Grange Road, Ramsgate and £164 worth of chocolate biscuits from the Co-op in Minster and stealing items from the Co-op in Birchington.

Mr Horey was bailed to appear at Margate Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 6 July.
