Thanet author Carol Salter to launch her first children’s picture book

Carol has published her first children's picture book

Thanet author Carol Salter will launch her first picture book next month.

The Manston-based writer has made a departure from her usual adult and young adult tales but stays in the fantasy genre for children’s story Chicken Wizard.

The tale of the wizarding chicken is the first of three picture books Carol has been working on.

The next two will be Shea Pingle and The Swarm- a story of a fairy who cares for bees and Mustard and Marmalade, Dachshund Dog Detectives- about the mystery solving hounds.

The Chicken Wizard launch takes place on July 8, 10am to noon at The Classroom Bookshop in Westgate and then 1pm to 3pm at Taddy’s Barn in Margate.

Carol said: “This book has been made possible by working with the talented Kent-based, illustrator Elleanore Lileiv Bramhill. Her involvement has enabled me to complete my dream of expanding my work to include a younger age range of readers.”

Carol also has several more fantasy novels pending, including Between Here and Hell due out in 2024.

Carol said: “The main focus of my month has been the completion of Chicken Wizard. Its been fraught with emails zooming between myself, my formatter, and the new printing company for my picture books—Swallowtail.

“I’ve already taken several pre-orders. It seems that a remarkable bird wearing a wizarding hat, is collecting some interest.

“Whilst Chicken Wizard has been in negotiations, I’ve been attending various events in East Kent. First, the Kent Fest at Quex Park and I’m attending the Kent Country Show on Sunday 27th and Monday 28th August, also at Quex Park.

“I did really well at the Sandwich Le Weekend and will be back in Sandwich on July 1-2 at the Folk & Ale Festival.”
