Wavy Gravy Davey art exhibition to open at York Street Gallery

‘Wavy Gravy Davey’ art -aka Paul Davey- opens his exhibition this week

An exhibition of ‘tessellating’ patterns from Thanet artist ‘Wavy Gravy Davey’ will go on show in Ramsgate this week.

Everything is Connected is a collection of works by artist Paul Davey – aka Wavy Gravy Davey – that were put together from a ‘creative surge’ during lockdown in 2020.

The exhibition opens at York Street Gallery on Wednesday (June 21) and runs for one week.

Paul, who studied at Goldsmith’s, moved to Ramsgate in 2007.

He said: “I became fascinated with MC Escher’s tessellating patterns decades ago, and created many of my own. There will be a variety on show at the gallery.

“During the 2020 lockdown I had a massive creative surge and tried hard to create something unique. But of course, as we all know, uniquity is almost impossible to achieve nowadays.

“At the gallery you will see abstract lines, shapes and familiar imagery intertwined to form patterns that I have never seen before. I am hoping the audience will agree, and hopefully enjoy the show.”

Asked about his unusual artist moniker, he said: “  The name Wavy Gravy Davey stems from my school days, kids like to invent nicknames, usually with rhymes. I like it and am going to stick with it!”

York Street Gallery in Ramsgate is open 10.30am-4pm Tuesday to Saturday and 11am to 4pm on Sunday.

There will be a meet the artist event with Wavy Gravy Davey this Saturday (June 24) from 2pm.
