Every running club and group in Thanet came together on Global Running Day (June 7) to complete a 5k run together, acknowledging their shared passion for running.

The 300-strong group included dozens from each of the two Thanet parkruns (Margate and Pegwell Bay).  Parkrun is a completely free 5k run, jog or walk, which takes place at 9am every Saturday.  A British concept, it’s now spreading across the globe.  It is an inclusive and encouraging group, which has changed so many lives.

Coastal Striders, Thanet Roadrunners, Alfie’s Striders, Thanet Athletics Club, Illegal Runners and several other informal groups were all represented in the celebration of running.

Jon Holl, from Thanet Roadrunners, said: “Running is so good for your physical and mental health. It’s great that the number of people putting on their trainers and going out for a jog along our beautiful coastline is ever increasing.  Running with others is so much more fulfilling.  It is a really accessible form of exercise and every group in Thanet is really positive and encouraging.”
