Successful first Cliftonville fun run event for primary and pre-school children and staff

Little fun runners from Cliftonville primary and pre-school

Children and staff at Cliftonville Primary and Pre-School were excited to hold their first ever Children’s Fun Run last week.

This was not only part of the school’s  sports provision but also a fantastic way to raise money for the primary and pre-school whilst having fun.

Deputy Head Teacher Louise Wilson said: “We always have a huge number of pupils entering the Thanet Cross Country events at Quex Park and wanted to capitalise on this with our own Cliftonville twist.”

Children, in fancy dress or sports clothes, started their session with a fun, dance warm up with Miss Bucceri and Miss Jewell.

Staff join in with the fun

They then completed a mini-London marathon course on the field and school playground alongside Mr Knight, one of the site team, who will be running the actual London Marathon and the Brighton Marathon in aid of the Get Kids Going charity. There was lots of energetic music to keep the children and staff going.

The money raised from the now-annual event will be divided between the Get Kids Going charity and towards the current school project of developing a piece of land into a community garden where the children will be able to grow their own fruits and vegetables to eat and sell.

Ms Wilson added: “All the pupils, from Pre-School to Year 6, had an absolute blast running the Fun Run despite a little bit of rain. We had lots of children asking when they could run again and if we could do this every year. We wish Mr Knight every success with his two marathons.”
