Four men have been arrested after police officers were called to a reported assault on Margate seafront last night (February 7).

Shortly after 10. 30pm officers attended Marine Terrace and were told that a man had been assaulted by a group of men at the Nayland Rock shelter near the roundabout leading to the town’s railway station. The victim was taken to hospital with facial injuries.

Four men, aged between 21 and 38, were arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in custody while enquiries continue. Offiers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Officers are also appealing to anyone who witnessed an earlier disturbance in and around the Promenade Brewers Fayre restaurant in Station Approach.

That incident took place at around 9.45pm and officers are treating it as potentially linked to the later assault.

Anyone who witnessed either incident, or who has dashcam or CCTV which may assist officers, is urged to call Kent Police on 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/23988/23.

Anyone with information can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or complete their online form.

  1. awful , what a dangerous area we live in, instead of throwing money at worthless arts projects , they need to take back control of our streets.

    • Question real world:- who should take back control. ? The Council. ? The investors in the arts projects. ? The Police. ? In reality it should be the parents who should teach or have taught their children followed by the limited number of police who are paid to patrol the streets.

    • “real world” 🙄

Are you asking for a para-art force with the power of arrest?

Armed with paint guns and sturdy paint brush to tackle criminals?

  2. i am merely commenting that money in this area should be better spent, wherever it comes from. also the way this country going i expect private security companies ” militia? ” might well be patroling our crime ridden streets one day

    • You may be behind the times ‘real world’.

TDC already employs private security guards to patrol Margate seafront during the summer months due to the level of anti-social behaviour and the number of fights on the beach.

It seems that many of our visitors are incapable of having a nice day out at the seaside without getting drunk and/or sniffing nitrous gas (or other chemical substances) and then starting anything from a minor skirmish between half a dozen idiots or pitched battles involving 50 or more morons.

  3. I walked by there the other day and was sworn and shouted at by one of the campers (!), I happened to glance at him. Its very scary and I now cross the road. When are the council going to sort this out I thought this shelter was listed. A lovely welcome to any visitors either by car or train. The town needs every penny from outsiders to enable individual shops, bars and restaurants to continue to thrive. Its a pigsty
