Officers investigating a serious assault where a woman suffered head injuries after a rock was thrown through the window of The Hussar pub in Garlinge, have charged a man.
Landlady Michelle Greig suffered head injuries following the random assault on New Year’s Day at the Canterbury Road pub.
She is still recovering from the injury which required stitches and a scan and has not been fit enough to return to her role. It is understood the incident was not related to any customer dispute.
Dave and Michelle took the helm of The Hussar in 2021 after previous landlords Rennie and Elaine Dobbs retired.
Stephen Gowton, 36, of no fixed address, was arrested on Saturday 14 January and charged the following day with causing grievous bodily harm and criminal damage.
He appeared in Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Monday 16 January where he was remanded in custody. The case will next be heard at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday 13 February.
