Thanet council waste collections and service opening times over Christmas and New Year

Waste operatives

There will be just one change to recycling, refuse and food waste collections over the Christmas and New Year period.

If your bin collection is due on Monday 26 December, it will now be collected on Saturday 24 December (Christmas Eve) instead.

There are no other changes to scheduled waste and recycling collections.

Garden waste collections will be suspended from Monday 19 December and resume on Monday 16 January.

Clinical waste collections will continue as normal.

Christmas trees will not be collected as part of the council’s regular waste and recycling collections. Pilgrims Hospice is collecting Christmas trees for recycling in return for a donation. They will be collecting from selected locations across Thanet between Friday 6 and Monday 9 January 2023. You can find out more and book collections on their website: PilgrimsHospices.org

Customer Services Opening Times (telephone only) are open Friday 23 December  – 8.45am to 5pm and closed from Saturday 24 December (Christmas Eve) – lines reopen at 9am on Tuesday 3 January 2023

Thanet Gateway Plus will be closed for council services from 2pm on Friday 23 December, reopening at 10am on Tuesday 3 January.

The grounds and remembrance chapel at the crematorium and Margate and Ramsgate cemeteries will be open as usual from 9am until 4.30pm every day, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s day.

The crematorium office will be open from 9am to 4.30pm as usual, except for Christmas Day, Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 December (as these are bank holidays), New Year’s day and Monday 2 January (which is a bank holiday).

All public toilets will be closed on Christmas Day. On Monday 26 December (Boxing Day) and on Sunday 1 January (New Year’s Day) toilets will open one hour later than usual. They will close at the usual time.

  1. Why close them in the first place?

I want a council tax rebate for lack of toilets. Lack of hygiene in them too.

Poor services means a rebate tdc. Just like the repairs contracts by law you should have had for closing our asset buildings.

What did tdc santa say walking backwards… OH OH OH..

  2. Luckily the council offices are closed on Christmas day too. Not that I would ever suggest using their doorway as a public urinal. Heaven forbid!
