The dates for the annual Ramsgate Week Regatta will be changed from next year, moving the event from July to August.

The Round the Goodwins race is also to have a date change and will be separate from the Regatta.

A spokesperson for organisers, the Royal Temple Yacht Club, said: “In order to run the regatta on neap tides and as a result of competitor feedback the dates have moved into August from 2023 onwards and this coming year the Regatta will take place between 7th and 11th August.

“This move puts the regatta firmly back into the school holidays and supports our plans to include something for everyone in our family regatta. We will be working with the Town Council to involve the town more in the event.

“The format will be generally in line with the 2022 regatta with the inclusion of an additional Performance Cruiser class catering for those with asymmetric and code 0 sails.

“We have taken the Round the Goodwins race out of Ramsgate Week and the regatta now runs from Monday to Friday.  A further announcement will be made once we have a new date for the Goodwins race.

“We are also promoting a classic cruiser class and providing we see 2 or more entries this will be the first time classic boats will be seen racing off Ramsgate for many years.

“Our trophies will be reallocated to ensure the most prestigious trophies are presented to the winners in the largest classes in 2023, this will include the QEII Cup and the Gold Cup.

“To help with rising costs we have opened our entry and are offering an early bird for confirmed entries prior to 31st January. “
