Birchington WI ladies to go ‘starkers’ for charity calendar

The Birchington WI calendar girls

Move over Calendar Girls – the ladies at the Birchington WI are planning to get bare in aid of charity.

Members of Thanet’s newest Women’s Institute are working with village businesses to produce a ‘cheeky’ 2023 calendar to raise funds for EKUBS (East Kent Unit for Breast Screening).

Twenty-seven WI ladies will be taking part in photo shoots with each of the calendar months sponsored by a local business.

Lizzy Davidson, who set up the group last year, said: “The calendar is a combined effort by the WI ladies and local businesses with the community in mind.

“There will be a theme for each month and it will be for EKUBS and anything we make from the calendars will go to the charity.

“We are going to be completely starkers but will have our particulars strategically covered! We are inviting business owners to take part in the photos too but they will also have to be starkers!

“The idea is from Calendar Girls. It is obviously for raising some money but also having fun and will be good for businesses and for charity.”

The Birchington WI has already teamed with Foxgloves florist for one of the months and other businesses are welcome to get in touch if they would like to be involved.

The Birchington group has also set up a Blue Tits open water swimming group inspired by member Rachael Goodwill who swam to raise funds for Cancer Research.

The Blue Tits is a nationwide group for predominately women who swim in open fresh water or the sea.

Birchington WI meetings take place at Church House, in Kent Gardens, on every first Tuesday in the month.
