A collage club in Ramsgate that aims to bring people together to enjoy art and company is now holding its first exhibition.

The Wednesday Collage Club is led by artist Sharon Hendy and based at Hold Creative Spaces studios in Albert Street.

The Wednesday collage club, which is hosted rather than taught, is open to everyone with a suggested donation of £3 for sessions.

After a year of meeting members are holding exhibition The First Cut full of beautiful and thought provoking work.

Member Lynsey Fox said: “After weeks of putting off going to collage club due to uncertainty and being unsure about my ability, I finally went and haven’t looked back since. “It’s a relaxing place where you can get lost in cutting and sticking and have a giggle in between.

“It’s an amazing club made up of people I would have never met otherwise, every one of them full of encouragement for each other. It also gave me a chance to use up my vintage magazine collection which had been collecting dust on a shelf. Now they have been used to create colourful collages.”

Some members have made very personal work and have found the meditative element and camaraderie an uplifting experience.

The suggested donation is to ensure that people who cannot afford it are able to be included. There are books, papers, magazines, scissors, glue and board available.
