Crowds packed out The Oval Bandstand and Lawns today (August 13) for a host of Margate Pride events before the big parade in the afternoon.

Colourful outfits, music, dance and more were on offer with storytime with drag queen Dame Jame, Boogie bounce dance class with Kanndiss Riley, The Neptunes Choir, Drag Energy workshops with JazBazMaz, Mx Margate performance with huge celebrity judges, then the Social Singing Choir perform.

This was followed by a rally with campaigner for LGBTQIA+ rights and founder of LGBT+ History month Sue Sanders, Ronnie from African Rainbow Family, Max from Not A Phase and Rob Yates deputy mayor of Margate.

Other attendees included artist Tracey Emin, members of Thanet Green Party, Margate mayor Heather Keen, Ramsgate mayor Raushan Ara and Margate carnival organiser Jack Packman with wife and business owner Charlotte.

The entertainment continues tonight with a gig at Dreamland and a host of after-parties. There are also art events and exhibitions running in the town until August 20.
