Turner Contemporary has closed due to the coronavirus situation.

The gallery is shut from tomorrow (March 18) until further notice.

Director, Victoria Pomery OBE, said: “Following careful consideration of the COVID-19 situation, it is with sadness that Turner Contemporary will be closed to the public from Wednesday, March 18 until further notice.

“We will be reviewing the situation and will keep you updated. I want to assure you that we have not taken this decision lightly, but the welfare of our visitors and staff is our top priority.

“While our gallery is closed our work continues. We know that art has a vital role to play in all of our lives and we believe that creativity is essential for everyone. We recognise the impact that our closure may have and we will be expanding our digital presence.

“We’ll be sharing updates, videos, behind-the-scenes stories and highlights from our archive on our social media channels over the coming weeks. Follow us on InstagramTwitter and/or Facebook or visit our website to find out more.

“Many of our staff will continue to work remotely. For general enquiries please email [email protected].

If you have booked a ticket to an event organised by Turner Contemporary, we will be in touch soon or please also contact us on [email protected]
