Christ Church juniors learn about The Girl Who Stole an Elephant

Author Nizrana visits Christ Church juniors

Children and staff at Christ Church CofE Junior School in Ramsgate were delighted to welcome to the school Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month author Nizrana Farook.

Nizrana spoke to the whole school about  her new book, The Girl who Stole an Elephant, and her experience as a new author. She then met with 15 pupils who correspond with her through the Book Pen Pals Scheme, an initiative set up to link authors with schools, not just for day visits but on an ongoing basis, enriching the school experience for the pupils and building a love of reading.

Following lunch Nizrana delivered workshop sessions with the two year 5 classes, helping  children to develop their creative writing skills. The day closed with Nizrana signing books for eager pupils.

Pupils and staff judged the day a great success and look forward to more days like it.

A school spokesman said: “It was just terrific to see the children engaging with Nizrana, especially those who are perhaps less confident or less able.”

The event follows the successful author visit last term by Gareth P Jones, writer of the Pet Detective books.
