Ramsgate and Margate RNLI and Coastguard in major search for person missing from commercial vessel

Ramsgate and Margate RNLI have launched this morning (February 15) after reports a person may have gone overboard from commercial vessel  B Gas Margrethe, anchored  off Margate.

The crews responded to calls just before 6am to Margate and at 6.28am for Ramsgate to a request from the UK Coastguard to assist with a search for the missing person. The Coastguard helicopter is also in attendance.

It is understood the crewman didn’t turn up for his shift and wasn’t in his cabin, resulting in the the alarm being raised.

Warship HMS Westminster is currently heading towards the scene and has been drafted in to help with the search.

Kent Police were alerted to the incident, A spokesperson said: “Kent Police received a report at around 9.10am from Dover Coastguard for the concern for the welfare of man missing from a ship anchored off the coast at Margate. Officers are working with the Coastguard to carry out enquiries.”
