Live music and karaoke mark the final weekend of trading at The Britannia in Margate

The Britannia

Live music will be staged at The Britannia pub in Margate tonight (January 11) marking its final weekend of trading.

Marc Eden and The Peckham Cowboys will treat punters to a mix of acoustic, electric, Hammond organ and covers from Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Hendrix and more for the pub’s final live music event.

The gig starts at 9pm.

Tomorrow will be the final event at The Britannia and will include karaoke with Steve Barratt.

Earlier this month Britannia landlord Paul Rollins announced he was closing the Fort Hill boozer on due to pressures including ‘crippling’ business rates.

Paul and Edna have been at the helm of the pub for almost five years

Paul and wife Edna have run the pub for almost five years and hit the headlines with their £1 Sunday roast dinners last year. The venue has also put on a host of live music nights and other events over the years,

But Paul, 66, says running the “pub is not viable.”

Future plans for the site have not yet been revealed.
