Tickets are now on sale for the 2020 programme of events from BroadstairsLit.

The line up includes appearances by crime queen Martina Cole, former Home Secretary Alan Johnson, renowned mudlarker Lara Maiklem, Richard & Judy Book Club pick Clare Mackintosh, and Ripper expert and TV historian, Hallie Rubenhold.

Festival director Denise Martin-Harker described 2019 as a wonderful year, and has spoken of gratitude for all the support BroadstairsLit has received from both sponsors and audiences.

She said: “Nearly all our events were sold out, some with waiting lists. Last year’s line-up seemed a hard act to follow but we’ve done it. Every one of our authors booked for 2020 have won awards and been a Sunday Times Bestseller. And in some cases, a New York Times chart-topper too!”

The year-round literary festival was started in 2017 by a small group of volunteers, including Denise, Jacqui Wellbrook and Thanet author Jane Wenham-Jones, and has since welcomed a string of big-name guests including Sir Tony Robinson, cast members from The Archers, actress Helen Lederer, former hostage Terry Waite and TV star and children’s author Dermot O’Leary.

The festival’s latest calendar begins on March 12 when Hallie Rubenhold will introduce her new book on the Ripper’s victims; followed on April 5 by an exclusive soiree with Broadstairs’ own Lara Maiklem talking about her Radio Four book of the week on Mudlarking.

May 15 brings a special Broadstairs-themed Murder Mystery Night; and on June 25, one-time copper and No 1 psychological thriller writer Clare Mackintosh will discuss the inspiration behind her work.

The former Labour cabinet minister and prolific author Alan Johnson visits Broadstairs on October 11 and the BroadstairsLit year will end in style on December 3 with the Queen of Crime, and seller of over 16 million books, Martina Cole!
