Emergency services were called to Ramsgate’s East Pier this morning (December 7) after a man caught his leg in the steps and ended up hanging upside down.

Ramsgate RNLI spokeswoman Karen Cox said: “A man was trapped by his leg hanging upside down on the Jubilee steps at the East Pier. All emergency services were called and he was lowered into the lifeboat safely.”

A Kent Police spokesperson added: “Police were called to Harbour Parade, Ramsgate at 3.31am  following a report of concern for a man. He was assisted by the emergency services and taken to a local hospital for treatment.”

Two fire engines and a rescue team were also called to the site and crews used a rescue sling to release the trapped man.

  1. Sounds like a b***dy lucky escape given the time of night and water temperature had he fallen in. Just shows how vital our lifeboat team and emergency services are. Good old guys and gals in blue.
