Kent Police is reminding residents to take simple crime prevention steps to keep their homes secure as part of its annual burglary awareness campaign.
Lock windows, side gates and garages;
Turn on burglar alarms.
Make sure your house is not the only one in the street left in darkness. Use timers for internal lighting, and arrange for people to visit the property while you are away.
Do not leave packaging out on display by the bins – it advertises what burglars may find inside your home.
Photograph and insure expensive or unique items.
