‘Stripped off’ man arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage after railway station disturbance

A man has been arrested and taken to hospital as a precaution following a disturbance at Broadstairs railway station.

Kent Police officers were called at around 12.33pm today (October 4) following the incident where witnesses say the man had been on the footbridge at the station, stripped off his clothes, jumped a fence and allegedly broke a car window before running off with officers in pursuit. An assault is also said to have taken place.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Officers attended where a man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and assault. As a precaution he was taken to a local hospital.”

A British Transport Police spokesman added: “Officers were called to Broadstairs railway station at 12.35pm today, following a report of an assault.

“Officers attended and a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage. An investigation is underway, witnesses are asked to contact BTP by sending a text to 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40  quoting reference 265 of 04/10/2019.”
