New dance and drama academy opens in grounds of St Peter’s-in-Thanet Junior School

The St Peter's Dance and Drama Academy

A new dance and drama academy has opened in the grounds of St Peter’s-in-Thanet junior school.

The St Peter’s Dance and Drama Academy opened its doors to pupils, and ex pupils,  of the school this September and aims to the youngsters extended opportunities to experience the arts.

The school has specialist teachers for drama, music, art, dance and physical education.

The academy was created by St Peter’s teacher Charlotte Seeney.

She said: “Currently, we have four Saturday sessions including street dance, lyrical contemporary, drama and musical theatre. These sessions are led by two teachers from the school- myself and specialist drama teacher Jayne Websper.

“The academy offers great opportunities to ex-pupils: giving them the chance to teach. Our most recent workshop was run by a very talented ex pupil- Ashton Sharpe. The children were buzzing after learning his choreography. We look forward to working with him again in the near future.

“Summer Stocker, also an ex pupil of the school, is currently choreographing one of our next competition dances with some of our gifted pupils. The children love having such a range of young aspiring dancers teaching them.

“It isn’t often dance schools have the opportunity to work with teachers who are still dancing and learning themselves and we are forever grateful to our young teachers for their creativity and ingenuity.”

Charlotte says she has big plans for the Academy- including adding more classes after Christmas.
