Artists’ ideas invited for Tiina Turner Prize at Dreamland

The Tiina Turner Prize

The Tiina Turner Prize has been launched by Dreamland Margate.

The competition, with support from Studio Tac, is to create a new piece of public art for the amusement park in the run up to the Turner Prize 2019 exhibition which opens next month.

Artists are invited to submit proposals for a piece of public art to adorn Dreamland’s Mural By The Sea billboard, overlooking the park and its 600,000+ a year visitors

The work should encapsulate both Margate’s thriving creative community and takes inspiration from the life and career of legendary singer Tina Turner.

The Tiina Turner Prize was launched following the unveiling of Dreamland’s newly commission piece of unique fan art on August 10 – a 7m inflatable sculpture of Tina Turner head with its own karaoke booth inside -created by artists Cool Shit.

Artists can submit proposals up to August 26. A shortlist of proposals will then be put to the public vote, and the winning artwork will go on display at Dreamland on September 28.
It is hoped the Tiina Turner Prize will act as an alternative but complimentary attraction for Margate during the famed Turner Prize exhibition, which is being hosted by Turner Contemporary with a programme of events from Margate Now.

Artists proposals should:

Be inspired by Tina Turner and/or what she represents (creating a direct likeness of Tina Turner in the piece is not obligatory)

Convey the positive spirit of Margate and its thriving arts scene

The piece must be suitable for family audience as it will be on display in the park to all users – https://www.muralbythesea.co.uk/commission-terms
