Friendly Fires – and a music ‘cove’ made of shipping containers – will be at Wheels and Fins 2019

Friendly Fires will be a headline act at Wheels and Fins Festival

Indie band Friendly Fires will headline the Lighthouse Main Stage on Sunday, September 8 at this year’s Wheels and Fins festival.

The St Albans band recently announced the arrival of their new album ‘Inflorescent’ out this month.  Hype surrounds this release – their first full-length in over eight years – which comes after a string of standout appearances at festivals, Glastonbury and Citadel.

The two-day event on September 7-8 at Joss Bay has also added to the bill, Mystery Jets, The Social Singing Choir, Frazer and Killing Giants. There will be a VIP area with BBC Radio 1 DJ’s, Gemma Cairney and Jack Saunders and a silent disco where festival goers can switch between channels of pure rock music to bumping house grooves.

Extreme Bike Battles and the Mad Drop Air Bag challenge, where guests can experience the life of a stuntman, hurling themselves from a great height onto a huge air bag, will also be on offer.

Plans have also been unveiled for The Cove, built from 14 shipping containers and featuring a purpose-built wooden stage with adjacent DJ booths, The Cove will be home to acoustic and live music, DJs spinning sets and the Silent Disco.

The lineup already announced for 2019 includes punk duo Slaves, drum ‘n’ bass legends S.P.Y, Kings Of The Rollers, Logistics and DJ Zinc, house and tech stars Noisia, Redlight and Barely Legal, and much more.

Across the site and on the beach, a plethora of high octane and chilled out activities are on offer. From sup sessions, surfing, beach volleyball and yoga, to pro-skate comps to axe throwing.

Other key music additions include Mystery Jets, who’ll deliver a set of psychedelia and playful wonky pop with proggy undertones; The Social Singing Choir with their fresh take on reworking contemporary pop hits, in choir format; alternative rockers Frazer and anthemic, rock four-piece, Killing Giants.

Revellers will find bars catering for all favourite tipples, including Heineken Super Bar, Lagunitas Motor Home Bar stocking craft ales, the Redbull Bar returning for its second year, the Chapledown Gin Bar, Rum Shack and the Jägermeister Bar built in a caravan!
