It is time for the first Dreamland Big Band Proms

Big Band music at Dreamland

The first ever Dreamland Proms takes place on the Scenic Stage tomorrow (June 15) from 6pm, with the BBC Big Band and Claire Martin MBE proving the best swing, jazz and big band tunes for all to enjoy.

Widely regarded as the world’s leading and most versatile orchestras, The BBC Big Band consistently delights audiences old and new through their radio broadcasts and live performances. Stalwarts of the Royal Albert Hall, the Proms In The Park at Hyde Park and numerous festivals, the band is best known for its show Big Band Special on BBC Radio 2 as well its appearances on BBC Radio 3’s Jazz Line Up.

Conductor Barry Forgie will be at the helm and featured vocalist Claire Martin OBE leading the troops.

If you’re planning to come along, here are Dreamland’s top tips for making the most of the evening…

Bring a sweet picnic

Dreamland has relaxed its picnic policy for the event, so guests can bring their own snacks to keep hunger at bay. The street food stalls will be churning out savoury food, so why not focus on homemade sweet treats? Scones, jam and crew, chocolate-dipped strawberries, or your own flavoured popcorn? No glass or metal cutlery!

Buy your fizz on site

You can’t bring alcohol into the site, but the on-park bars will be selling beers, spirits, wine and essential fizz for the evening. There’s even a cocktail van serving mojitos, aperol spritz and other fizz-based fun. Bring extra fresh fruit or mint to spruce up your drinks…

Bring a camping chair

Portable camping chairs that fold flat or to a smaller size are permitted on site for the show. Traditional picnic blankets are also welcome – get that prime spot on the Dreamland slopes nice and early!

Dress up Dreamland style

It is the Proms after all, so make an effort with your favourite glad rags for the evening – but don’t be afraid to add a splash of Dreamland colour and flair. We’re stylish, not stiff.

Or just treat yourself to an upgrade

If you want the best seats in the house or your very own champagne supper hamper handed to you on arrival, then go for a Golden Circle ticket or a VIP package. A little more lux for a lovely night out…
