Margate teen arrested in connection with serious assault in Canterbury released on bail

A 17-year-old boy from Margate arrested in connection with an attack on a foreign student in Canterbury has been released pending further enquiries.

The teen was one of five arrested following the assault which has left the young victim in a serious condition. He is being cared for at a London hospital.

Officers were called to Whitefriars Street at around 6pm on Thursday, June 6, to reports that a teenage boy had been assaulted. Patrols and the South East Coast Ambulance Service attended and the victim was conveyed to a London hospital by air ambulance

A 16-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl and two 15-year-old boys, all from Canterbury, and the 17-year-old boy from Margate were arrested as part of the investigation. A 44-year-old man of no fixed address was also arrested, on suspicion of assisting an offender. They were all later released on bail, pending further enquiries.

A further suspect, a 17-year-old boy from Canterbury, was arrested last night (June 8) and he remains in custody.
