A teenager from Margate is among five youths arrested in connection with a serious assault in Canterbury last night (June 6).
Witnesses are being sought by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate after Kent Police was called to Whitefriars Street at around 6pm to reports that a teenage boy had been assaulted.
The youngster is thought to be a foreign exchange student.
Patrols and the South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene and the teenager was conveyed to a London hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries.
A 16-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl and two 15-year-old boys, all from Canterbury, and the 17-year-old boy from Margate have been arrested as part of the investigation.
Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officers would like to thank all those who have already got in contact regarding the assault and they are urging anyone else who witnessed the incident or who has information that may assist the investigation to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference 06-1409.
It would be wonderful if they are the ones responsible could all be given a birching.
No,no,no! What a barbaric punishment! How would that improve things for anybody??
Ann has been coming out with a lot of senseless comments lately.
+Marva Rees – Typical extreme leftwing attitude! It would improve things by the culprits getting a taste of their own medicine. You’ve obviously led a very sheltered life.
From the top, rather a disgusting incident, five against one, for a start. What is matter with this part of the scum youth gang merde. Such cowardice is rarely shown nowadays. Keep them locked up, boot camp them until they realise that they should not have done this (however long it takes). This poor young visitor is now left fighting for his life. I hope he recovers, and more importantly, I hope that this terrible incident will not effect his life forever, or his future thoughts on England, although it probably will. Shame on the culprits.
These are very similar circumstances to the vulnerable lad who got seriously assaulted in Highfield Road Ramsgate in April. Those culprits have not been handed over into police custody yet despite CCTV footage in the area.
What would you suggest then, Marva?
Not corporal punishment, anyway. Especially considering what these teenagers did to this poor boy. To suggest that it would be a good thing to do is ironic- inflicting pain can never be a good thing.
