Full line-up announced for Margate Soul Festival

Cool Million will feature Eli Thompson on vocals

Margate Soul Festival has announced its full line up for the annual three day music event in August.

Top live acts, DJs and a street festival will be among the attractions. The festival, from August 2-4, is spread across Margate with nine indoor venues, four outdoor stages, the street event at the Piazza, more than 100 DJs and a grand finale at Margate Winter Gardens.

Appearing at the Winter Gardens on the outside Red Stripe Sunset Stage and indoors in the Main Hall on Saturday, August 3, will be UK Jazz Funk giants Incognito and Light of the World with special guests Michelle John, Lukas Setto and Mad Yella.

Light of the World

On Sunday, August 4 the festival finale features the latest modern soul sounds of Cool Million which features festival founder Eli Thompson on vocals. There will also be a special guest appearance by 80s artist James D Train Williams whose hit “You’re The One For Me” spawned his first US Billboard Dance chart number-one.

Janet Kay, Omar, Steve Nichol of Loose Ends and David A Tobin will also feature on the Sunday programme.

The free to access Street Festival has been sponsored by RiverOak Strategic Partners, County Councillor Barry Lewis, Margate Town Team,  Miles & Barr and with additional support from dozens of local businesses. A funding bid has also been submitted.

It will feature performances of Dance from Leon Williams (Eastcoast Entertains) and Jerome Anderson (Jerome’s World Of Dance) and will be hosted by Zero Radio.

The Sunday finale will feature a performance from top local band EK1.

Incognito

SALT Margate, in Marine Drive, will also feature a weekend programme of top DJs  to add to the eclectic mix of club nightlife.

Venues include Olby’s Soul Café, Margate Winter Gardens, Sunset Stage and the Imperial Lounge.

Margate Soul Festival is the work of Westcoast Kent Community Interest Company in partnership with Mi Soul Radio London

“This year has been testing to say the least,” said festival organiser Eli Thompson, “but we have managed to pull it off with the support of some key partners and businesses who understand the worth of the festival to the area. We, as with many other event organisers, are experiencing challenging circumstances in an  uncertain climate. The future has to be collaborative working.”
