Gas main works in Albion Street have hit a slight problem

Water gushing in Albion Street

Works by SGN to replace gas mains with new pipework have been interrupted today by  gushing water – thought to be due to a suction not working on a burst main.

SGN is investing £372,500 to replace the mains with a 23 week programme of works that began in January.

Albion Street is currently closed between its junctions with Harbour Street and Alexandra Road for the work.

From Monday 18 February, Thanet Road will be closed at its junction with Albion Street. A signed diversion will be in place.

Southern Water said: “Our team is on site and making the necessary repairs. Sometimes repairs take longer than we’d like, as we need to complete numerous checks and tests. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we thank you for your patience.”

  1. Haha! So when those lazy gas workman managed to summon up the energy to do 5 minutes of work, they hit the water mains! Unbelievable! If they stopped standing around drinking tea, sitting in their vans, and disappearing off site for hours maybe the work would’ve been finished in a week or two? Instead they cause months long chaos for the residents of Broadstairs. Glad I’m not a Southern Networks shareholder, and no wonder our gas bills are always on the rise.
