Fire crews called to Station Road in Birchington

Fire crews and the ambulance service have been called to a blaze in Birchington.

The fire is at Seabells fish and chips in Birchington’s Station Road. Witnesses report three fire engines and one ambulance with one staff member being treated at the scene.

Flats above the premises have been evacuated.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said@: ” KFRS was called out to a fire at a premises on Station Road, Birchington at 9.43pm.

“Three fire engines attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to put the fire out. They used a high pressure fan to clear the building of smoke.

“A man was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation by SECAmb paramedics. The fire is believed to have started accidentally but the cause is not known.”
