To spread some Christmas cheer, members from a Thanet learning disability charity have been to Westwood Cross to sing carols. The group from East Kent Mencap were feeling festive as they performed alongside Thanet Big Sing Choir for shoppers to enjoy.
Together, they sang classics such as ‘Jingle Bells’, ‘Deck the Halls’ and ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’, as well as pop songs including ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’, ‘Let it Snow’ and ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’.
Fundraising officer Siobhan Rose O’Gorman, said: “We were very grateful to have the support of Thanet Big Sing choir, who helped everyone get into the spirit of things. It was great to see so many shoppers stopping to join in with the singing, despite the cold weather!”
With 85% of young people with a disability saying they feel lonely, East Kent Mencap wants this festive season to be a time for celebration, where no one with a learning disability feels isolated or alone. The charity is appealing for help to make this happen through their Christmas fundraiser.
All donations will go towards continuing their work to enable people with a learning disability in East Kent to achieve the things they want out of life, and to be valued, treated equally, listened to and included. To make a donation, svisit www.eastkentmencap.co.uk/donate
