Music, stalls and a tale of Christmas underground are all coming to the Ramsgate Tunnels

Big band entertainment at Ramsgate Tunnels

Big band music, a vintage fair and tales of an underground Christmas all feature at Ramsgate’s wartime tunnels next month.

On Saturday December 1 The Beverley Big Band returns to bring festive cheer to the Victorian railway tunnel when they will be presenting an afternoon of swing and big band music made famous by Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, Count Basie and many more.

Joining them  is guest vocalist Graham Clark, who will be adding some favourite Christmas tunes to the set list. The afternoon also includes light refreshments and tickets are on sale now.

On Sunday, December 9 the last 2018 tunnels vintage, handmade and collectables fair takes place. For this special Christmas fair the Tunnels team is working with Addington Street Fair. Between them they will host a ‘cliff to cliff’ entertainment route from Addington Street through the town to the Tunnels. Entry to the fair in the Tunnels is free and it will be open from 9.30am to 4pm.

Tours during the day will be running at normal prices.

To round off the December programme  children’s author Helen Seton will be hosting A Children’s Christmas on  December 15-16. She will be describing how children would have celebrated Christmas in the dark days of 1940.

She will also be reading from her book Tommy and Tilly’s Underground Christmas, the story of two Ramsgate children enjoying their wartime festivities. All of this will be taking place in a seasonally decorated Tunnel Town – just as it would have been all those years ago.

Full details of all the events are on the Tunnel’s website at www.ramsgatetunnels.org , or you can find out more by calling 01843 588123.
