Ramsgate RNLI crew has assisted with a 30ft cabin cruiser that was sinking on the River Stour at Sandwich today (November 6).

A search was also launched by the Coastguard helicopter after reports a person may have been in the water.

The call was made at 12.32pm with the RNLI joining the coastguard and fire brigade at the scene.

The RNLI searched the immediate area and further up the river to Richborough Castle. The coastguard helicopter was also searching.

The boat had been sinking in the water but when the RNLI returned it was tied up on a dropping tide and the owner who had been reported missing was safe.

The search was called off and the Ramshgate inshore lifeboat has just returned to base.
