Dozens of kitesurfers ‘sailed’ into Margate on, and above, the waves this morning (October 27) in a spectacular fundraiser for the RNLI.

Around 35 members from Ramsgate’s Kite Pirates Kite School, Start Fresh PT and The Juice Project took part in the down wind journey from Whitstable to Margate.

The kite-surfers, from Thanet, Whitstable, Deal and Sandwich, travelled approximately 16 nautical miles and successfully raised their £1,000 target for the RNLI.

Graeme Rolbiecki, from Kite Pirates, said: “It went really well and we got about 35 men and women on the water. There were people losing boards and stacking it all over the place but no accidents. Everybody had a lot of fun, we raised our £1,000 target, and think we may now do this as an annual event.”

The RNLI was chosen for its lifesaving work at sea.
