Ageless Thanet: Food, fun and hugs at the 50+ Festival

Volunteering with Ageless Thanet

The annual Ageless Thanet 50+ Festival is being held on Sunday, November 4, at St. George’s School in Broadstairs. Doors will be open from 10am-3pm, and all ages are welcome.

This is a free event to find out what is available for people over 50, living in Thanet.

We’ve got some fantastic refreshment options booked for this year, including two of our 300 Age-Friendly Businesses: Our Kitchen in the Isle of Thanet, run by Sharon Goodyer who will be cooking up a storm with her healthy stir fries; vintage tea room, Bessie’s Tea Parlour will be bringing a touch of nostalgia to the event with their homemade food and drink. We also have Tea and Tiffin Tuk Tuk in the grounds offering coffee and cake.

With free taster sessions such as Tai Chi, Japanese drumming, singing, Samba, belly dancing, boccia, Scottish country dancing and healthy cooking, to name just a few, it’s promising to be a fun-filled day. You can also get involved with a taster session run by The Rock Choir at 2pm after their performance at 1:30pm. There will be some sessions to raise awareness of topics such as Dementia and scams. A huge variety of stalls will be showcasing what they have to offer residents of Thanet who are 50+.

Following the success of our Hugs and Handshakes day, we will be having a Hugs and Handshakes Corner at the event. A survey conducted by A Campaign to End Loneliness found that 88% of people believe that small moments of connection can help tackle loneliness, so don’t forget to come and get your hug!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors: All Seasons, Bluebird Care, Caremark Thanet, Right at Home and The Martin Bell Partnership for their support and contributions.

Maria Nicholls, Director of Operations for All Seasons said: “All Seasons is absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to work in partnership with Ageless Thanet on the 50+ Festival.  All Seasons fully supports the ethos of the 50+ Festival as most of our clients come under that age category and love nothing more that socialising when they are able to.

“This is a unique opportunity to come along have fun and socially interact with like-minded new friends with the bonus of finding out what is available of interest locally in Thanet.  I believe that the 50+ Festival can only build upon last year’s success and be even more successful for 2018”.
